Get the Dirt on Soil – and Play with it Too!!

Hutchinson, KS – The Reno County Extension Master Gardeners will be offering a Lunchtime Learning Soils 101 Class  Thursday, March 19 from 12:15 to 1pm at the Reno County Extension Office, 2 W. 10th Ave., South Hutchinson. Attendees will receive instruction on the importance of soil condition and fertility in achieving a successful home garden. How to actually perform a soil test to determine pH and nutrient content plus what to do with its results will also be covered.

Attendance is free for this lunchtime learning session,there is no pre-registration required. Attendees are welcome to bring a sack lunch along. Water and tea will be provided.

For those who can stay longer than the noon hour a special add on program “SOIL AND ART” will begin at 1:30 and last approximately until 3:30pm. This will feature professional Agronomist Rhonda Janke. Bring a half cup sample of your own garden soil or use those provided. Come and learn how to make your own paint out of soil! We need healthy soil for growing healthy crops and gardens, but it was the pigment of choice for the paintings of the ‘old masters’. Cost for this session is $5. Please register by March 16 by calling the Reno County Extension Office at 620-662-2371.
